It gives me great pleasure to announce Emily Afton’s new single ‘Severing The Knot.’ Emily is a person of truly rare talent, with a voice that would stop traffic going 75 across the Bay Bridge.
And without hyperbole I can safely say her music traverses a wider range of genres than almost any other local Bay Area musician I can think of – from indie rock and folk to hip-hop and electronic music. And more importantly, she does it all exceedingly well. Fans of highly eclectic Bay Area bands like The Seshen and Waterstrider: keep Emily Afton’s music on your radar.
Of her new single Severing The Knot, Emily says: “The song is about connections, and how the ones that we have with each other and ourselves, (when lost) follow us around like ghosts.”
Severing The Knot is the first track off her soon to be released album, which is due this spring. Though I can’t share the new single itself with you just yet, I can promise powerful vocal harmonies, delicately layered keyboards, and heavy yet spacious production from David Earl and Lila Rose.
Emily, who began the writing process by recording demos at home, then turned to Lila for help reexamining lyrics and song structures. And David brought the songs to life with his unique arsenal of sounds and encyclopedic style of music production.
